da esoccer bet: Manchester United and Tottenham’s Premier League clash this Saturday, a case of second hosting third, looks set to be a tight and cagey affair of particularly fine margins that could be decided by one moment of brilliance, madness or a refereeing decision. And thus, we turn your attentions to Saturday’s designated official – Jonathan Moss.
da lvbet: Aged 47, Moss is an experienced referee at this point in his career, having worked in the Premier League since 2011. And statistically speaking, Moss does a pretty good job, striking a balance between letting the game flow and asserting his authority. In fact, he’s been right in the middle of the table for fouls per game, fouls per tackle, yellow cards per game and penalties per game this season.

But statistics can never quite tell the whole story and while Moss is clearly well-intended, he does have a reputation for making the wrong calls when it comes to the big decisions. In fact, a study in April 2016 found that Moss had made a ‘key match error’ every 1.69 games by that point in the season – a division-highest for 2015/16.
Moss will like to feel he’s improved since then but there are still doubts over whether he has the consistency to referee a game of Saturday’s magnitude, that could have a huge bearing on the title race come the end of May.
Perhaps, though, we should be more focused on his assistant Andy Halliday – who wrongly awarded a corner to Chelsea last weekend that the reigning champions scored from in a disappointing lapse of concentration.
The stats, meanwhile, offer mixed messages in terms of omens. Manchester United tend to commit more fouls than Spurs but rank lower for tackles, so the fact Moss is more lenient on challenges but still in the top ten for fouls per game and cards per game doesn’t particularly work for or against either side.
Likewise, Tottenham will take encouragement from 43% of Moss’ matches this season ending in wins for the away team, an unusually high ratio, but on the other hand, the Durham-born official is yet to referee a Spurs game this season.
His only game in charge with Man United involved , meanwhile, ended in a 4-0 win over Swansea.
