da marjack bet: This summer, Everton rejected transfer offers from RB Leipzig worth in excess of £20 million for the services of Ademola Lookman, as reported by Sky Sports. The transfer window closed with the England under-21 international still on the books at Goodison Park and determined to fight his way into new boss Marco Silva’s plans.
What’s the word?
da dobrowin: After a successful loan spell in the Bundesliga last season, a return to RB Leipzig must have been tempting for Lookman. The 20-year-old registered an impressive five goals and four assists in only eleven league outings during his brief stint with the German outfit.
However, despite the good form he displayed for his temporary club, Lookman remains outside of the starting XI picture on Merseyside. In the four Premier League games to have been played of this new season so far, Lookman has only made Silva’s matchday squad twice, and has only taken to the field once.
With the likes of Theo Walcott, Richarlison, Bernard and Dominic Calvert-Lewin ahead of him in the pecking order, Lookman looks set to find minutes hard to come by this season. The situation would be very different had the winger forced through a return to Leipzig this summer.
Moving on
Lookman joined Everton in January 2017 and will have set his sights upon breaking his way into the Toffees’ first team from that day forward. Now, for the good of his career, he must find a new route to the top.

At this stage in his career, Lookman needs to be playing as regularly as possible – an experience he is almost certain to miss out on at Everton for the foreseeable future. Whereas, a return to Leipzig and the week in week out football that such a move would have brought about could even have moved Lookman into contention for the England senior team.
Whether it had been another loan or a permanent switch, Lookman should have forced his way out of Everton this summer. He could now go on to regret having allowed himself to become a squad filler option under Silva.
